PUBLIC HEARING TO BE HELD ON PROPOSED INDOOR PESTICIDE APPLICATION REGULATION

WHO: Maine Board of Pesticides Control

WHAT: Notice of Public Hearing

WHEN: Wednesday, July, 21, 2004, 9:30 a.m.

WHERE: Hampton Inn, Colby/Thomas Rooms, 425 Kennedy Memorial Drive, Waterville

DETAILS:
In a effort to increase protection for people and especially children who are among the most susceptible to pesticide exposure, the Maine Board of Pesticides Control, is proposing to develop standards for indoor pesticide applications.

The proposed rule sets procedures and standards for commercial pesticide applicators applying pesticides inside occupied private and public buildings, such as rented residential buildings, condominiums, licensed childcare facilities and nursery schools, and commercial and institutional buildings.

Commercial applicators would be required to use “integrated pest management” or practical pest management strategies that reduce risks to health and the environment, and notify persons using certain buildings about pending pesticide applications.

At the hearing, time will be allowed for the public to voice comments to the Board. Written comments will be accepted through Friday, August 13, 2004, 4 p.m. Documents can be sent via mail, fax or e-mail:
